What is the Surround Yourself project?
Surround Yourself discovers and connects indie artists with indie shoppers. Each week, we highlight a new artist offering a special giveaway.
So, every week there's a new giveaway with a cool new artist to meet?
Yes.
How do I enter the giveaways?
Enter the giveaways by clicking on the  butterfly under each offering or navigating to the giveaway page and filling out a simple form.
What do you do with the information I supply to you on the submission form?
Your information will never be given away, traded or sold. If you are the winner of the giveaway, your mailing address will be emailed to the artist to fulfill your prize. The item you favorite from the featured artists' shop is sent in a document with all the other favorites to the artist at the end of the week. Your email and mailing addresses are not included in this list.
How do I sign up for the newsletter?
Sign up by clicking here. Enter your email address and choose the Surround Yourself list. If you are having problems or can't be bothered, send me an email and I will add you to the list.
How many email newsletters do you send?
One a week featuring the giveaway of the week, normally on a Tuesday or a Thursday.
When do you do the drawings for the giveaways?
I normally do the drawings on Tuesdays. I first let the artist know who won and wait for them to respond. Once I hear a response back, I email the winner and share the good news.
How do you pick the weeks winner?
I use Random.org which" offers true random numbers to anyone on the Internet. The randomness comes from atmospheric noise, which for many purposes is better than the pseudo-random number algorithms typically used in computer programs." Fancy.
Do you make money doing this?
No. Actually, I lose it. The newsletter list is growing at a rapid rate which means the more subscribers I have the more money it costs to run it. Also, this project takes a big chunk of time, twittering, facebooking, laying out newsletters, laying out featured artist pages, going through submissions, searching for press ops, the list goes on. Oh yeah, and it's just a one women, one dog team right now :)
Then why do you do it?
It makes me feel warm and fuzzy to help out indie artists. I'm constantly pimping artists' sites to friends, family and co-workers. You need a locket? New print? You want fortune cookie slippers, sushi hats, cone dog pillows, a knitted mini purple beard? Let me send you the names and sites of artists who sell all of these items.
So, let me get this straight...you do this all for FREE?

How can I be featured on Surround Yourself?
If you would like to be featured on Surround Yourself, please fill out the form on the submissions page OR send an email to info@surroundyourself.net with a link to your shop and an item you would like to offer as a giveaway and we will take a look. Due to the amount of submissions, we will only be responding to those scheduled to feature.
I submitted my work, why haven't you contacted me to be a feature?
Due to the amount of submissions, I will only be responding to those scheduled to feature. As mentioned earlier, I'm just a one women, one dog team right now. Surround Yourself is a big chunk of my life but not the one that pays the bills.
Does that mean you don't like my work?
This has nothing to do with you personally. Your items are unique and wonderful but, not everything fits in with my aesthetic or the aesthetic of those who play here. Again, this is not to be taken personal. I love a good set of twirly pasties and bumble bee nipple rings but they probably will not send alot of traffic to your shop from Surround Yourself. But, I'll bookmark you. I'm always up for a good set of tassles :)

I love the idea of Surround Yourself. Can I create my own giveaway site?
There are plenty of giveaway sites. You are more than welcome to create your own but please do not copy the Surround Yourself model. I have spent alot of time, energy and brain power putting this project together. It's really not cool to steal. Come up with your own brilliance and email me about it so I can support you.
